Smith House was built in 1929 by Mr I. Perel and subsequently sold to Mrs M.M. Wicht. The residence was purchased in December 1983 by the Stellenbosch Museum to ensure that it would be available for the further development of the Stellenbosch Town Museum. Smith House was declared a National Monument in July 1992.
